Obituary for Desmond D. Davis

Desmond D. Davis, age 88 years, of Kingman, AZ, formerly a 55 year resident of Holmes and Pawling, NY, died on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, NV, surrounded by his family.

Born on June 6, 1933 in Poughkeepsie, NY, son of the late Desmond B. and Mildred (Woodin) Davis. He attended schools in Holmes and Pawling, NY and then served his country in the Army from 1956 till 1958.

Desmond married the love of his life, Maxine A. Holz on October 8, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster, NY.

Desmond was a Transportation Manager for the Carmel Central School District working for 28 years, retiring in 1991. He had worked with The Pawling Rubber Corporation for 6 years following his time serving in the Army. Desmond was a longtime member of the Holmes United Methodist Church and later the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Florida.

After leaving Holmes, NY, Desmond had lived in Mayfield, NY for 18 years, followed by Sun City Center, FL for 7 years and most recently Kingman, AZ for the past 7 years.

Desmond and Maxine enjoyed RV traveling around the US for 12 years, including a trip to Alaska. He loved his hunting, fishing and trapping. He was also a member of the NRA. Desmond was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Besides his wife Maxine of 65 years, Desmond is survived by his daughter Dawn M. Sloat and her husband Brian; his 2 grandsons, Brian Sloat of Las Vegas, NV and Benjamin Sloat and his wife Heather of Pleasant Valley, NY; his 2 great grandsons, Trenton and Troy Sloat; his brother Ronald Davis of Pawling, NY; and several nieces and nephews. Desmond was pre-deceased by a grandson Daniel Sloat in 2006.

A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday October 20, 2021 at 12pm at South Dover Rural Cemetery, Wingdale, NY.
