Obituary for Erik R. "Lars" Petersen Jr.
Erik R. Petersen Jr. ‘Lars’, age 81, a lifelong resident of Patterson, NY, died on August 30, 2016 in Valhalla, NY.
Erik was born on January 2, 1935 in Dayton, OH to Erik R. and Grethe (Jensen) Petersen. He was a 1952 graduate of Carmel High School and proudly served in the Navy from 1952 to 1956.
On January 10, 1959, Erik married Rosina M. Rennia at St. Charles Borromeo’s Church in Dover Plains, NY.
Erik was owner and operator of the Petersen’s Greenhouses in Patterson, NY where he began working as a boy for his parents’ greenhouses. Even in his retirement he continued to assist his family in many aspects of the business.
Through the years, Erik was chairman of the Patterson Recreation Commission, adjutant secretary of the Ronald Grey American Legion Post 1542 and an honorary/life member of the Patterson Fire Department, joining in 1962 and having served as president during the 1970’s. He possessed a unique passion for his business and greatly loved his family.
Besides his wife Tootsie of 57 years, Erik is survived by his daughter Madeline Hyatt of Holmes, NY, his two sons, Erik P. ‘Pete’ Petersen of Patterson, NY and Carl Petersen of Sherman, CT; his two brothers, Gregers R. Petersen of Patterson, NY and Kristian ‘Kit’ Petersen of Paradise, CA; his son-in-law, Michael F. Henry of Holmes, NY; his eight grandchildren, David C. Hyatt (Sabrina), Richard A. Hyatt, Joseph T. Hyatt, Heidi Petersen, Hans Petersen, Michael F. Henry Jr., Rachel M. Henry and Daniel J. Henry; and his great granddaughter, Eva Rose Hyatt. Also several nieces and nephews. Erik was predeceased by his daughter Kirsten Marie Henry on February 4, 2007.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2016 2:00pm at Dwyer Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Patterson, NY. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8pm at Dwyer Funeral Home. www.dwyerfuneralhome.com
