Obituary for Evelyn Ohland (Jakubzik)
Evelyn Ohland, a resident of Holmes, NY, died peacefully on Friday, February 4, 2022, at Danbury Hospital with her daughters at her side. She was 86 years old.
Born on October 15, 1935, in Wanne-Eickel, Germany to Wilhelm and Heinriette (Bronischewski) Jakubzik.
Evelyn attended schools in Germany and came to the United States in 1956.
On May 14, 1960, Evelyn married the love of her life, Johann P. ‘Hans’ Ohland in Manhattan, NY. Mr. Ohland died in 2014.
Evelyn worked as a Mental Hygiene Therapy Aide at the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Hospital in Wingdale, NY.
Evelyn was a resident of Holmes, NY since 1976, having lived in Queens, NY prior.
Evelyn touched the hearts of all who knew her. A truly gentle woman. She was a gifted crocheter and knitter. Evelyn enjoyed travel, gardening, baking, and cooking. Her family was such an important part of her life as well as her church family at the Holmes United Methodist Church where she enjoyed every aspect of ‘church fellowship’.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Susanne Winick (Sherwin Paul) of Manhattan, NY, and Roberta Ohland Balon (Robert) of Gorham, NH; two grandsons, Kyle William Balon and Cameron Robert Balon
A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 12, 2022, 10AM at the Holmes United Methodist Church, Holmes, NY. Interment will follow at the Pawling Rural Cemetery, Pawling, NY. Friends may call at Dwyer Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Patterson, NY on Friday from 4 to 8pm.
