Obituary for Frank A. Plunkett

Frank A. Plunkett, age 89, a 36 year resident of Patterson, NY, formerly of Fairfield and Norwalk, CT, died on Friday, August 18, 2017 in Carmel, NY.

Frank was born on March 27, 1928 in Port Chester, NY to Francis and Ellen (Hackman) Plunkett. He was a graduate of Harrison High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Missouri School of Mines. Frank enlisted in the Army, proudly serving his country from June of 1946 until May of 1947. While there he trained in electrical engineering at Clemson University. He remained in the reserves until 1959.

On October 16, 1954 Frank married the love of his life Katherine ‘Kay’ Brandon at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster, NY.

Frank was a Computer Analyst with IBM in Bridgeport, CT for 35 years before retiring in 1985.
Frank’s work for IBM brought him to many offices in the surrounding areas of New York and Connecticut. After retirement, he continued as a computer consultant.

An avid NY Giants and NY Yankees fan, Frank also volunteered with the Patterson Historical Society and taught computer skills to the elderly. He enjoyed golf and reading. In his early years, he was an Eagle Scout. Above all, Frank was a family man at heart, a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Besides his wife Kay of 62 years, Frank is survived by his children, Kathleen (George) Mooers of Clinton, TN, Linda (Paul) Cochrane of Patterson, NY, Dyane Plunkett of Pawling, NY, Frank E. (Donna) Plunkett of Urbandale, IA, James (Elaine) Plunkett of Pawling, NY, Debra Plunkett of Patterson, NY, Sandra Plunkett of Patterson, NY and the extended family of Jaime Vaquera and Sheila Monti; a brother, Jack (Cynthia) Plunkett of Niceville, FL; 13 grandchildren, Shawn and James Driscoll, Kayla (Antwone) Boone, Amy Mooers, Hannah, Chelsea and Lydia Cochrane, Aedan and Connor Plunkett-Nelson, Amanda (Adrian) Beard, Max Plunkett, Valerie (fiancée Corbin) Plunkett and Billy Plunkett. Also 4 great grandchildren, Izaiah, Izabella, Jacob and Emmalyn. Frank was predeceased by a son Steven B. Plunkett on December 16, 2016 and a grandson Georgie Mooers on December 10, 2011.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 23, 2017 10:00am at Dwyer Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Patterson, NY with Rev. Szyman Kurpios officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Avenue Cemetery, Patterson. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8pm at the funeral home. www.dwyerfuneralhome.com
