Obituary for Helen Sprague (Burdick)

Helen Sprague, age 99, of Cornwall Hill Rd in Patterson New York, passed away on May 24th at Danbury Hospital with her loving grandchildren by her side. Helen was born on December 5,1922, at her home on Bullet Hole Road in Patterson, NY. She loved to reminisce about her many happy memories from her childhood and growing up on her family’s farm. Helen married the love of her life, David C. Sprague on November 30, 1941, and they raised their family on Cornwall Hill Road. Helen was predeceased by her husband David C. Sprague and her four children, Ruth Ann Sprague, David Sprague, Janette Morgan, and Richard Sprague.

Helen worked at the Matthew Paterson Elementary School as the cafeteria manager. She loved cooking for the children; it brought her joy to see their smiling faces every day. Helen, referred to as “GG” by her family, had a caring spirit and loved to help people in any way that she could. She was always willing to lend a hand. She was devoted to her family, friends, and community. In her retirement years she enjoyed volunteering at the church thrift shop and gathering items for the food pantry. She lived a fulfilled life. Helen had a strong faith, and she appreciated the beautiful gift of watching three generations grow. She was kind, humble and strong, and she was a gift to all who had the privilege to know and love her. She will be missed greatly by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nephew; however, her memories will live on forever.

Helen is survived by her three loving grandchildren, Michael Morgan and his wife, Debbie of Sherman, Nicole Sprague of Patterson, and David Morgan of Brookfield; her great-grandchildren, Mckenna and Alexis and her nephew Hollis “Butch” Baker of Patterson. She can never be replaced and will be held in her family and friends’ hearts’ forever. They can be comforted knowing that she can now rest in peace. Helen’s grandchildren would like to extend a special thank you to Butch Baker, Paula Sprague, Erin Barry and Rosemary Mascio; we are grateful for all you did for GG.
