Obituary for Sue G. Lauro

Sue Lauro passed peacefully surrounded with love and family on May 12, 2023 at Danbury Hospital. She was born on November 28, 1951 to Tandy and Helen Guinn in New Rochelle NY and was a long time resident of Patterson NY.

Sue (better known as Susie) was the most loving devoted wife, stepmother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband Richard (Ricky); stepson Bruce; stepdaughters Anita and Julia; grandchildren Christine and Carl, great-grandson Kieran, sister Mary; and brothers Tandy and James. She joins her mother, father and brother Chris in heaven.

Susie held a very special place in her heart for Christine, Carl and Kieran (who called her “Momma Sue”). They spent a great deal of time together, creating cherished memories that will last forever. She also adored her nieces and nephews Tim, Kyle, Chris, Apple, William, James, Joshua, Adam, Rena and great niece Eloise. They brought her much joy and happiness.

Susie had many passions in life including hiking, biking, travel, and making stained glass. She was an avid reader who always had a book by her bedside to fall asleep to. Susie and Richard were inseparable and had many adventures near and far. They once explored castles in England but also took pleasure in local trips to lighthouses, beaches, state parks, and historical sites.

As a child she would go to Sherwood Island Park, and it became one of her favorite places later in life. They went there often with her close friend Donna. Susie and Richard wandered through estate flower gardens gathering ideas to bring home to their own garden, which was their pride and joy. They spent two weeks in Florida every year, sitting on the balcony enjoying the beautiful ocean view while sharing time with family.

Susie also enjoyed time at home, eating breakfast with Richard on their porch, and taking strolls in the garden to cut flowers to display in her bud vases. She loved her family, alternating hosting holidays every year with her sister Mary. Susie was bright and witty, quick to banter and loved a good tease especially with her brothers.

Susie had a Master’s degree in Elementary Education and worked as a first grade teacher for 20 years at Mathew Patterson Elementary School. Teaching was her joy and she poured her heart and soul into it. Any time Susie reflected on her teaching career her blue eyes would shine and she would have the brightest smile.

Susie was truly a light in this world, she will forever be remembered by her family and friends that loved her dearly. Her passing will leave a void in the hearts of her loved ones. She found great peace knowing that we will carry her in our hearts and bring her along on all life’s adventures.

When a great soul dies after a long period ........peace blooms ...

A special thank you to all the doctors and nurses at Danbury Hospital who went above and beyond to care for Susie and showed such amazing kindness - her family will be eternally grateful.

Sue Lauro’s visitation will be held at Dwyer Funeral Home (23 South Street Patterson NY 12563) on Thursday May 18th during the hours of 4:00 to 8:00pm.
